“But I want a Tommy Gun!”
“Keep quiet, we have a Tommy Gun at home.”
This is the Tommy Gun at home, the new Diamondback TG-Nine PCC that just dropped as part of the company’s 9mm pistol caliber carbine DB9R platform.
The heritage of this AR PCC is evident in the name and the furniture that comes with this build from the Florida-based gunmaker. I
It includes a fixed walnut stock from Custom Firearm Products, as well as a walnut pistol grip and foregrip that attaches to the M-LOK handguard. It also ships with a Magpul PMAG D-50 GL9 drum magazine and a foam-lined, guitar-shaped gun case from Savior Equipment.
Honestly, without that wooden foregrip and the drum mag, this release from Diamondback wouldn’t really resemble a Tommy Gun at all. It would be far easier to get behind if it were chambered in .45 ACP like an actual Thompson, which was an interesting but flawed weapon that was widely issued to U.S. military personnel during WWII.
As for the AR underneath, it’s built from an A3 flattop aluminum upper and a 7075 T-6 aluminum lower with a 15-inch handguard and a Diamondback 16-inch barrel.
Regardless, it’s a pretty good build that doesn’t offend the eye and stands out a bit, but is it $1,699 good? That’s up to you.
