Who would have thought that Magpul would become one of the premier producers of affordable polymer stocks for a bevy of firearm platforms? But here we are. The company makes what is arguably the best tactical shotgun stock, a bunch of AR stocks and handguards, and even a great takedown stock. Now, joining their Backpacker stock for the most popular .22LR rifle out there is the new Magpul MOE X-22 stock upgrade for the Ruger 10/22 semi-auto rimfire rifle.

As you can imagine, this budget-friendly, lightweight polymer stock features M-LOK slots at the at the 6 o’clock position and Magpul’s proprietary TSP texture on the pistol grip. The whole stock weighs just over a pound (18.9 ounces, according to Magpul) and comes with integral sling loops at the toe and forend and an “ergonomic polymer butt-plate.”
It’s a lean, efficient, and doesn’t have many frills. This is a stock that you can use to breathe new life into a beat-up old 10/22 to get it into shooting shape fast and for about $70 MSRP. That’s pretty attractive to anyone looking to set up a simple pest or squirrel gun or make a nice plinker for a new shooter that will last for years.

The stock comes with a fixed length-of-pull of 13.5 inches and two barrel trays for both pencil barrels and bull-barrel profiles from Ruger.
Right now, the MOE X-22 is available and shipping in black with an MSRP of $69.95. The company says Flat Dark Earth, Stealth Grey, and Olive Drab models are on the way.
As we’ve seen with shotgun makers and rifle companies, it wouldn’t be surprising if a Ruger 10/22 with this simple and clean Magpul stock installed at the factory hit its product catalog come SHOT Show time in January.

And if you have any doubts about Magpul’s full stocks, we tested out its excellent Backpacker takedown stock for a 9mm Ruger PC Carbine, and it’s a fantastic product. It’s rugged, ergonomic, and simple with as few components as possible with enough room for accessories, and it’s even engineered with a cheek riser that doubles as a compartment for a spare full-sized magazine.
It’s a huge upgrade for that platform, and if you’re looking to add a bit more versatility to an old 10/22 beyond the basics of the MOE X-22, Magpul makes a Backpacker takedown stock for that platform, too.
