What’s the craziest thing you’ve ever seen in a dumpster? Bag of money? A baby? How about a shitton of defective bullpup shotguns? Federal agents recently launched an investigation into an Oklahoma gun store owner after authorities discovered a dumpster on his property absolutely filled with guns.
Raymond Anthony Mussatto, owner of International Firearm Corporation and two other establishments in Midwest, Oklahoma, allegedly “improperly disposed” of the firearms, according to the Jan. 26, 2023, affidavit obtained by Insider.
According to court documents, a sanitation worker found the cache in a dumpster outside of International Firearm Corporation on Jan. 19 and immediately contacted the police, who contacted the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF). Over the phone, one of Mussatto’s employees explained to an ATF agent that the guns in the dumpster were defective and therefore needed to be destroyed.
According to court documents, Mussatto asked the ATF in the fall of 2022 how to properly dispose of firearms, and an industry investigator told him “to cut the firearms in three different places, all the way through the receiver so that the firearms would not function or be able to be put back together.”
In response, Mussatto said that cutting the firearms would be too costly and asked if he could crush them instead. The ATF told him that crushing them would be okay as long as they were “completely pulverized.”
During the preliminary investigation, the agent spoke with two witnesses who said they saw guns in the dumpster days before the report. One of the witnesses said an employee who was cutting several of the guns gave him two that hadn’t been cut.
The employee told the witness not to shoot the guns because they were defective, according to the affidavit. The witness said he wouldn’t and later mounted them on a wall inside his house for decoration.
When an ATF agent arrived on the scene, he discovered that some of the firearms in the dumpster had been cut once through the magazine well but were still functional. In all, there were 236 shotguns, specifically Radikal Arms NK-1 12-gauge bullpup, box magazine-fed shotguns in the dumpster.
As of this writing, no charges have been filed against Mussatto, his businesses, or anyone involved in the incident.
